Sierra Global Network Private Limited, the leading telecommunication infrastructure development and managed services firm has further expanded their line of business of ‘In Building Solution’ services commonly known as IBS as part of their organisational expansion process.

Number of telecommunication operators has awarded their latest in building solution projects to Sierra Global where the company undertakes end-to-end solution from initial stages of planning, acquisition, and detailed From left: Deputy General Manager Madhura Somaweera, Senior Account Manager Gayan Ratnasiri, IBS Project Manager Chandana Perera, Director/CEO Dr. Arosha Fernando, Senior Consultant to the CEO Wijesiri Malasinghe at a roof top in Colombo surveying for IBS projectsurvey to design followed by installation and testing up to the final stage of commissioning of the system.

“Currently the number of mobile phone users is growing, and so is their demand for high quality service. People spend a large part of their time inside buildings, and increasingly rely on mobile phones to communicate. Whether it’s a crowded convention centre or a remote railway station, users expect their mobile phones to perform. High quality indoor coverage in public places is already a much sought-after commodity for both building owners and tenants. The growth of mobile communications has meant that the provision of wireless communication within airport, factories, stadiums and office buildings has become not only expected but in some instances mandatory,” said Sierra Global Director/CEO Dr. Arosha Fernando.

“Users expect mobile broadband everywhere, especially indoors, where more than half of all mobile traffic is generated. Operators need to meet those expectations if they want to be competitive. IBS provides the capacity that subscribers demand and opens the door for targeted, location-based applications. It’s becoming more important as 4G mobile technology shifts into high gear with LTE, and continuous demand for faster speeds means the operator need to provide radio coverage everywhere subscribers want. We are pleased to see the aggressive steps taken by number of local telecommunication operators to focus in this segment, and we have been selected as their partner of choice for the implementation,” said Senior Consultant to the CEO at Sierra Global Wijesiri Malasinghe.

“As part of the IBS projects, we are planning to strengthen the signal level of mobile communication inside buildings which will bring the direct benefits to those who are living inside and visiting the premises enabling them to have an effective and smooth communication through mobile networks. As we all are well aware that the weak signal level is now a day a common problem that every mobile user is facing inside the buildings. As a result the high calls dropping rate leading to many disadvantages in business transactions is at high concern by mobile users. Our aim is on behalf of the telecommunication operators to sort out the possible communication problems due to weak signal level by providing some essential network infrastructure developments inside the selected key building premises in Sri Lanka and selected overseas countries. In the long run this may attract more tenants who will realise that the place is well covered with sound signal strength,” said Sierra Global Project Manager – IBS Chandana Perera who has successfully undertaken IBS projects of 2,483 buildings in 26 countries including Europe, Middle East and Asia. Perera has undertaken the design of IBS in almost all the icon landmark in Colombo including World Trade Centre, Presidential Secretariat, Bank Of Ceylon head office, Merchant Tower, main hotels including Colombo Hilton, Galadari, Cinnamon Lake, and number of shopping centers including Liberty Plaza and Majestic City.
