‘Singer Seya’ themed photography competition activates Singer Sri Lanka Facebook fans

The ‘Singer Seya’ web competition gives photography enthusiasts from across Sri Lanka an opportunity to be recognized for their skills. The Singer Sri Lanka fan page on Facebook invites amateur photographers to upload photographs that correspond to a monthly theme that is announced on the page.

The top three photos are to be judged according to the number of ‘likes’ that a photo receives on the Facebook page. Winners will go on to win valuable a Samsung SDC-WB650 digital camera as the 1st prize, a SDC-SH100 for the 2nd prize and a SDC-ES9 as the 3rd prize which will aid them to develop their passion for the craft.

The response from local amateur photographers has been overwhelming and their submissions have been of a very high standard. The monthly winners will be announced on Facebook and will be requested to attend a prize-giving ceremony held every two months at the Singer Sri Lanka Head Office.  The prize giving for the October and November winners was held on 31 January. The winner of the October competition, Wijesundara received the highest recorded ‘likes’ on the Singer Sri Lanka Facebook page for the month, while the winner for the November was Sampath Palliyaguruge.

The Singer Seya Competition began in October 2012 and will continue till October 2013, at which point an exhibition will take place displaying 120 of the best photographs posted by Singer’s Facebook fans. The Competition was organized to create a platform for young and upcoming amateur photographers. The themes that have been prescribed since October were ‘general’, ‘lifestyle’ and ‘Christmas’.

The only pre-requisite for submitting a photo is that the photo cannot be edited or conditioned.

‘Friendship’ was the theme for the month of March. Participants who are interested in entering the competition can join the fan page ‘www.facebook.com/SingerSL’ and simply upload a photograph inspired by friendship.
