SL to join APAC Advisory Council of (ISC) 2 – world’s largest IT security organisation

The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium ((ISC)² has announced that Wasantha Perera, a Sri Lankan Information Security professional, will join the (ISC) 2 Asia-Pacific Advisory Council (APAC).  

(ISC)²’s Global Advisory Councils represent a group of senior-level cyber security specialists in their respective region who advise (ISC)² on industry initiatives, policies, views, standards and concerns.

Headquartered in the United States and with offices in London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Mumbai, and an authorised China agency in Beijing, the International Information System Security Certification Consortium, Inc., (ISC)²®, is the global, not-for-profit leader in educating and certifying information security professionals throughout their careers. 

It has been described as the ‘world’s largest IT security organisation’ and offers career services, gold Standard credentials to professionals and vendor-neutral education products on digital forensics, information security, secure software development, security in the healthcare industry and Cloud security. 

Perera provided the leadership as the chairperson for the local (ISC) 2 community for two years with an outstanding track-record. He holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree from University of Peradeniya and also received multiple prestigious awards in the security industry including (ISC) 2 Presidents Award 2014 in Beijing, (ISC) 2 Honouree in the Senior Information Security Professional Category and best Certified CISO awards finalist in EC-Council Global CISO Awards 2014 in the US.  

During his career he has been attached to multiple organisations including Millennium IT (a fully-owned technology business unit of the London Stock Exchange group), MAS Holdings, Hemas Holdings Plc and is currently offering his services to the Colombo Stock Exchange as the Head of Information Security and Compliance. 

Wasantha is proactively involved in many volunteer, research and academic activities in the region as an independent security advisor. With the new role, he is reporting to (ISC)² Board of Directors with six council members representing China, Korea, Japan, Thailand, India and Australia.  

The goals of the advisory councils are to offer deeper insights into the needs of the information security community in each respective region, discuss matters of policy or initiatives that drive professional development, provide feedback on (ISC)² programs, activities and opportunities.
