SLASSCOM Quality and Business Excellence Summit 2012 a success

The SLASSCOM Quality and Business Excellence Summit 2012 was held with the aim of bringing together the CXOs and the quality practitioners of Sri Lanka’s IT-BPO industry, recently at Cinnamon Lakeside, Colombo.



The summit focused on ‘Quality as Value Arbitrage for Growth’ emphasising on the significance of  inculcating quality as an attribute of personal excellence among all employees leading to a quality culture to build best in class organisations. This event had representation of 300 plus quality practitioners from across the IT/BPO industry as well as the manufacturing and banking sectors.

The keynote address by Rohan Pallewatte, CEO of Lanka Harness, was a compelling start to the event. He shared the success story of Lanka Harness, which is today the only supplier of impact sensors from Sri Lanka to leading automobile companies in Japan, US and Europe, including Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mitsubishi, Honda as well as Ford, General Motors and Chrysler of USA and BMW, Aston Martin and Saab, Renault and Opel. He covered the important aspects of the strategic value of quality and its importance to a business for long-term sustainability and success.

The summit also featured a diverse panel of industry specialists who addressed the gathering discussing their success stories on a variety of topics such as ‘Quality in an Agile Environment’ by Shehani Seneviratne, ‘Software Quality Engineering 3.0’ by Dhanushka Ranganath, ‘Use of Standardisation in Delivering Quality’ by Sathya Prakash Duggirala, ‘Successful Deployment of Enterprise-wide Lean Six Sigma’ by Sandra De Zoysa and Dumidu Ranaweera and the ‘Use of Metrics Dashboard on QA Team Productivity’ by Chandana Ranasinghe.

Each of these topics were discussed together with case studies that enabled the audience to identify the advantages, challenges and practical application of quality tools, techniques and measures can be applied across any industry for both individuals and companies to succeed and stay ahead of their game.

The event concluded with an insightful panel discussion focusing on the theme of the summit ‘Quality as Value Arbitrage for Growth’ moderated by Dr. Arul Sivagananathan. The panellists included Rohan Pallewatte – CEO of Lanka Harness, Madu Ratnayaka – Vice President and General Manager of Virtusa – Sri Lanka, Decca Fan – Managing Director of HSBC Electronic Data Processing Ltd. and Dr. Preethi Wanasinghe – COO of Sterling Lanka BPO.
