SLASSCOM session on ‘Internet Scale and the Role of Non-Relational Databases’ next week

The Sri Lanka Association of Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM) will be hosting a knowledge sharing session on ‘Internet Scale and the Role of Non-Relational Databases’ on 6 December 2011 at the Dialog Future World Auditorium at Excel World Entertainment Park.

This is part of SLASSCOM knowledge sharing platform which engages industry experts to share their experience and knowhow on current topics.

 In addition, this talk will be available free to all academic staff of all state and private universities as this is organised under the industry-academia network, SLASSCOM directlink initiative.

This session will focus on scalability and performance as key considerations for Internet scale application platforms and the role non-relational databases will play in dealing with these challenges.

The talk will be delivered by Prethiviraj Kuluasingham, the chief database architect at eCollege Lanka.

The speaker accounts for 16 years in the IT sector with 13 years in designing and defining the architecture for database systems including Oracle, MySQL and Microsoft SQL Servers.

His experience includes database design and architecture, performance trouble shooting, development of complex stored procedures, database replication and database administration, with over four years of experience in managing a 1 Tb size database server system.

“We plan to have many sessions on current topics and would encourage industry professionals to participate in these knowledge sharing sessions facilitated by us. In addition, to providing a platform for professionals to interact this also provides an opportunity for industry and academia to engage in a sustained manner,” said Nalina Wijesundara, Director and Head of the Capacity Forum for SLASSCOM.

All SLASSCOM’s initiatives are geared towards driving Sri Lanka to reach the national goal of becoming the number one industry to lead Sri Lanka to the knowledge economy while achieving the target of US$ 1 billion in revenue and employment to over 100,000 by 2015.
