The Department of Information Technology of SLIIT presents ‘CODEFEST 2012,’ a software development competition which will be held on 19 October at SLIIT’s Malabe campus.
The event, aimed at showcasing the programming talents of school students and undergraduates, will feature an open category and a school category.
The open category targets students of any university or any university level degree awarding institute, and participants must demonstrate their skills through the development of a mobile application.
A preliminary competition will be held to select four finalists. During the final round, the top three projects will be awarded Rs. 60,000, Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively, and the winning project will be marketed with the support of SLIIT.
The school category is open to schools from across the country. The contest will consist of a preliminary competition, in which 10 finalists will be selected. Students are required to develop a School Management System software, of which the winning project will be handed over to the Ministry of Education to be utilised by schools island-wide.
The best three projects for the final round will be awarded Rs. 80,000, Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 40,000 for first, second and third place respectively.
SLIIT’s industry partners for CODEFEST 2012 include Microsoft, Etisalat, IFS and Virtusa, with Sheffield Hallam University (UK) coming on board as academic partner.
SLIIT will also host an ‘Open Day’ organised by the Faculty of Computing on 19 October at SLIIT Malabe campus for parents and students to observe the institutes academic offerings and facilities.
