SLT Campus signs Letter of Intent with Lancaster University

The Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC), a fully owned subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom PLC, has entered into a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Lancaster University, UK. 

This exciting new initiative has been taken with the aim of helping to meet the national need for expanding the provision of higher education in Sri Lanka, by conducting quality undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs collaboratively, with globally reputed, high-ranked universities.

This significant partnership would, in future, facilitate the availability of high quality university programs, hopefully making a contribution to economic development  in Sri Lanka whilst at the same time raising Lancaster University’s profile in Sri Lanka. 

The prospective partnership would initially enable both parties to offer a 2+2 undergraduate Engineering program leading to a degree awarded by Lancaster University. The proposal envisages that the first two years of the program would be taught at SLTC, Sri Lanka and the final two years at Lancaster University in the UK. In the meantime, SLTC is also working towards building the gateway for Sri Lankan students to enroll in programs, across faculties, with Lancaster University in the future. 

Lancaster University is ranked in the top 1% of universities in the world, according to the QS World University Rankings, and it is also ranked in the top ten of universities in the UK in the Guardian League table. Lancaster is consistently placed in the top ten in the UK in all major league tables. In addition, after graduation 97% of all Lancaster graduates find work, in their related field, within the first six months. Lancaster has also won awards for the best student accommodation in the UK over the last six years. 

SLTC has started enrolments and commenced initial lectures at the city campus. The SLTC City Campus, located at TRACE City conducts professional courses, certifications, and training. The administrative operations, such as student registrations for the campus, are also located at the city campus. 

It is envisaged that the two-year diploma programs would be followed by BSc. Hons. (Eng.) (Electronic and Power Engineering), B.Sc. Hons. (Eng.) (Electronic and Communication Engineering) and B.Sc. Hons. (Eng.) (Electronic Engineering and Engineering Management). The City Campus can accommodate up to 300 students while the Padukka Campus can accommodate up to 300 students in its sprawling 35-acre property.
