Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) has come forward as the Principal Sponsor of Sri Lanka’s National ICT Expo INFOTEL-2016 for the sixth consecutive year.
INFOTEL-2016 will be held from 11 to 13 November at the BMICH under the theme of ‘Empowering Digital Citizens’. This event is organised by the Federation of Information Technology Industry of Sri Lanka (FITIS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational Training, and several other private sector institutions.
Expressing his views on this sponsorship, Sri Lanka Telecom Group Chief Executive Officer Dileepa Wijesundera said: “Today, technology plays a key role in smart society and digital lifestyle – it touches every aspect of life, enhancing lifestyles, and making the entire world a much smaller place than it used to be a few years ago. INFOTEL 2016 will revolve around the theme of ‘Empowering Digital Citizens,’ which is timely and relevant at present. Sri Lanka Telecom, being the national ICT solutions provider in Sri Lanka, we are passionate about ensuring ICT accessibility for all, with a view of enhancing the living standards of people and bringing about transformations in peoples’ lives as well as business organisations. For an example: in the present world, people’s lifestyles have been tremendously transformed by broadband internet services and technologies.”
“The SLT Group remains focused to drive ICT-based consumer and enterprise services forward by expanding the broadband footprint via the ‘Next Generation Network’ and the ‘National Backbone Network’ and multiple next generation access technologies including Fiber Optics, 4G/LTE and Carrier-grade Wi-Fi. We are committed to bridging the digital divide in the country and expediting socio-economic development in line with the initiatives of the Government of Sri Lanka. Thus, it was a privilege for us to partner with the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) once again this year to support and empower INFOTEL 2016 in the capacity of Principal Sponsor,” further said Dileepa Wijesundera, commenting on the key role played by the company in the much-awaited INFOTEL 2016.
“INFOTEL 2016 will be the platform for industrialist, researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs, academia and business community in the Information and Communication Technology industry to showcase their products, innovations, research and development initiatives, etc. Especially, this time we will have the ‘ICT – Startup Sri Lanka’ pavilion which create a great opportunity to small and medium scale entrepreneurs and people who just enter into product development in the ICT industry to promote themselves to giants in the industry.”
“As the driving force of the ICT industry, FITIS has taken this initiative to support startups for their business expansions and promotions. We are really proud to have many more ICT startups at INFOTEL 2016,” said Sudath Amarasinghe, Chairman of the Main Organising Committee of INFOTEL 2016 and President of FITIS – Hardware Chapter.
He added his appreciation to the Ministry of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure for their guidance and partnership. “I am glad to thank Minister of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure Harin Fernando as well as Ministry Secretary Wasantha Deshapriya for their great advice, excellent guidance and fullest cooperation in organising INFOTEL 2016.”
