SLT partners with ICTA to host World Summit Award 2013

The nation’s number one telecommunication services provider, Sri Lanka Telecom PLC (SLT), is partnering with the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) in hosting the World Summit Award (WSA) 2013. The WSA Global Congress 2013 will be held in Colombo from 23 to 26 October. Hosted by the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), the global event will be a fast-paced three-day conference featuring 40 outstanding application developers, more than 60 high-profile speakers and attracting up to 100 international delegates. “SLT is happy to partner with ICTA to host this prestigious event in Sri Lanka,” the country’s largest blue chip company Sri Lanka Telecom Group CEO Lalith De Silva said. “The conference objective is to present the most creative mobile and web applications from all over the world and to discuss the crucial role of e-content for global economy, environment, government, healthcare, education and mobility,” he pointed out “Content is key for ICT development in a country, and we are delighted to see the world’s best ICT content developers and their products in Sri Lanka,” the SLT Group CEO added. SLT is the largest telecommunication services provider in Sri Lanka and also one of the many large enterprises in the country reporting an annual turnover in excess of Rs. 40 billion. The company provides a variety of domestic and corporate services, which includes fixed and wireless telephony, internet access, and IT services to domestic, public sector and business sector customers. Strengthening its technology leadership in the country’s evolving broadband footprint, SLT enables its customers to experience the true potential of broadband, with the best service that a telco-operator can offer. This is on par with any global telecommunication operator. This year’s WSA conference program will include panels, keynote sessions and hands-on workshops about the content industry, e-learning, ICT and women as well as emerging markets. Leading ICT experts and high ranking representatives of governments and the United Nations will attend the congress, which will take place at The Kingsbury Hotel, Colombo. “The developers will demonstrate the richness and diversity of e-content around the globe. They will show that in an almost entirely connected world, it takes quality content to fulfill the promises of the information society,” ICTA Chairman and Senior Presidential Advisor Professor P.W. Epasinghe says. The congress will also make a special focus on social entrepreneurship and the role that internet and mobile phones play in reaching the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). “We are thankful to Sri Lanka Telecom for their support towards hosting this Global ICT Congress and award ceremony in the run-up to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Sri Lanka,” Professor Epasinghe who is also the Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya added.
