Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), the country’s largest telecom operator, is strategically partnering with the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) in hosting the FutureGov SAARC Summit 2013. The FutureGov SAARC Summit, the country’s important ICT conference for Government policymakers, will be held in Colombo on 25 and 26 June.

“SLT’s support towards this important international event is certainly a valuable contribution to more efficient e-Governance in the region,” ICTA CEO Reshan Dewapura stated.

“’The Mahinda Chintana – Vision for the Future’, the Government’s policy statement, holds out the hope of Sri Lanka becoming a regional hub in five sectors, one of which is the knowledge sector. The FutureGov SAARC Summit will focus on creating an environment that better enables the implementation of e-Government services, thus paving the way for more effective and efficient e-Governance in the region,” the ICTA CEO emphasised.

“SLT is proud and privileged to be the strategic partner of an event of this calibre that will bring together a rich combination of individuals from the SAARC region and with it, the opportunity to share valuable knowledge, experience and expertise across the region,” Sri Lanka Telecom Group CEO Lalith De Silva said.

Presidential Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, Minister of Public Management Reforms Naveen Dissanayake, Deputy Secretary to Treasury Dr. S. Batagoda , Head of Digital Austria Peter Reichstädter, CEO of Citizen Services Denmark Thomas Jakobsen and Undersecretary of Malaysian Ministry of Natural Resources Marsineh Jermin are among the key speakers at the FutureGov SAARC Summit 2013.

Pointing out the core roles ICT and SLT play in improving the lives of people, the SLT Group CEO stated:  “SLT continues to work towards increasing ICT access in Sri Lanka, bridging the digital divide and enabling the Government sector with ICT capability which is crucial to the economic development of the country. Through the launch of the ‘e-Sri Lanka’ project, we have provided the necessary network infrastructure and platforms to facilitate e-Government services across the country.”
