Sri Lankan students placed second in the SEARCC competition

The Sri Lanka students team became second, beating three other countries in the International Schools Software Competition that was held in Chennai India from 21 to 24 October.

The winning team consisted of S.C.P. Weerasinghe of Royal College, Colombo; P.G.M. Pallewatte, Nalanda College, Colombo and H.G. Udagahagamuwa, Royal College, Colombo. This International competition was organised by South East Asian Computer Confederation (SEARCC) and hosted by the Computer Society of India. Seven teams representing Australia, New Zealand, India and Taiwan participated in this competition.  

The Computer Society of Sri Lanka made arrangements to send two teams for the competition. These teams were selected from the winner of National Schools Software competition which is an annual event conducted by the Computer Society of Sri Lanka. The Computer Society of Sri Lanka has been conducting this competition since 1990. One of the key objectives of the competition is in the IT knowledge and interest among the Sri Lankan school children. The other team for this competition comprised D.M.S. Dissanayake of B/Andaulpotha National School Mahiyangana, U.G.R.K.W.S. Palitharathna of  Kingwood College, Kandy and N.R. Muhammed of STR/ Muslim MMV Sammanthurai.
