Empowering the next generation of startups

In the midst of entrepreneurship and innovation rapidly growing across the globe and changing the way business is done, Startup Sri-Lanka collaborated with Middy Fund NYC to create Startup Sri-Lanka Next Generation, a program which grooms a child’s mindset to overcome their challenges and achieve their goals using technology and an entrepreneurial mindset. The fundamental purpose of this initiative is to foster innovation and build confidence to help them face future challenges.

Educating children about innovation and to have an entrepreneurial mindset at a young age is important for future thought leaders. Igniting creativity and problem solving skills at a young age, sets a strong foundation for a child’s personal development.

Instilling an entrepreneurial mindset in children isn’t necessarily about having them to choose to be an entrepreneur over other options: Scientists, engineers and technologists. Entrepreneurship embodies in every profession and for some, it’s a way to monetise that talent.

Children learn a variety of life-long skill sets that are valuable no matter what profession they choose to pursue as adults.  In fact, today’s employers are looking for a mix of hard and soft skills in their workforce. Getting your child to practice entrepreneurship early on will teach them many of the skills needed as adults as well as set them apart as unique individuals.

Entrepreneurs tend to take risks that are more calculated than instinctual, and they aren’t necessarily driven by money, but they have a need to see their ideas become reality. They tend to be problem solvers and optimistic.

Startup Sri-Lanka Next Generation encourages kids to be kids, but we also recognise that they have great ideas and are capable of learning effective business skills to amplify their future path. This is why we’ve made learning entrepreneurship fun and engaging.

The program is for two days and it last six hours per day, the age group is focused for children from 12-17 years of age. The program will help your child develop the following skill set:

  • Building a Social Entrepreneurial mindset
  • Idea to execution
