Held in both Colombo and Jaffna, this year’s event will focus on telecom app development and among other prizes, and TADHack will award a grand prize of $ 42,000 to the winning team.
Sri Lanka has the world’s largest telco application developer ecosystem, with over 4,300 developers catering to 11 million people using more than 8,500 apps (a total of 80 million API calls per month), according to data released by hSenid Mobile. Growth in the sector has been quite dramatic, with there being a mere 85 apps just 12 years ago. Today, the average monthly revenue is $ 270, with 20% month-on-month app revenue growth.
“TADHack started in 2013 is the only global meeting place for Telecom application developers who love to learn, share, code and innovate across the breadth of telecom tools and technologies. Having a mission to build an ecosystem focused on telecom application development, TADHack is focused on developers, technology, and creativity. It is currently the largest telecoms-focused hackathon worldwide, attracting 2,000 registrations in 2015. It also has a sister event TADSummit which focuses on the business aspects of making/saving money from telecom application development,” the company said on its website.
“We, hSenid Mobile Solutions are proudly hosting TADHack in Sri Lanka since 2014 unveiling limitless opportunities for our very own tech enthusiastic community to take their ideas global. Our innovative Telco APIs have widened the scope of Telco development in Sri Lanka with their capability to address the global market needs. In 2015, we have extended the Sri Lankan Hackathon for two parallel satellite locations; Colombo and Jaffna and even hosted the event in Bangladesh as well,” it added.
