IBM today announced its collaboration with Textured Jersey Lanka PLC, a leading manufacturer of weft knit fabrics in Sri Lanka, to provide advanced technology solutions to the company for scaling up their business operations for improved efficiency. Textured Jersey is a public limited liability company, with the backing of two major players in the Textile Industry – Pacific Textiles Hong Kong and Brandix Lanka Limited. The company has emerged as a definite leader in specialised fabrics such as Viscose, Modal, Micro-Modal, and Tencel. It manufactures Single Jersey, Ribs and Interlock product categories for intimate apparel, active and leisure wear in the form of yarn dyes, solids, prints and marls. To cement its leadership position in the industry, Textured Jersey required a revamp of their IT infrastructure while ensuring an enhanced business performance. They decided to invest in the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Software for smarter backup and recovery management. With the IBM solution, Textured Jersey was able to build a robust IT environment that has end-to-end technology support. It also makes the company’s data available in a more efficient and fast manner, while providing a centralised, automated data protection to help reduce risks associated with any data loss in their organisation. “In the fashion business, understanding and responding to trends early provides essential competitive advantage, and effectively increases efficiency,” said Textured Jersey General Manager Production Pubudu De Silva. “We invest in solutions and partners who have the vision and capability in service quality to customers. In a business environment, managing information is one of the key factors in determining efficiency,” Chief Financial Officer Salman Nishtar stated. Textured Jersey Head of IT Linkesh Ratnasamy briefed, “This is a large scale upgrade which includes changes to the existing hardware, the operating system, databases and version upgrade to ERP. The hosting infrastructure has enough server headroom to accommodate our current as well as projected traffic loads. While we are very committed to accomplishing these new server upgrades, we consider it to be essential for our growth at this point. With Tivoli Software Manager’s future proofing technology, the data is backed up faster and can be automatically migrated to new Gen tape drives without changing the time stamp of the data. The solution allows the company to comply with data retention regulations and improved service levels, much needed by an international manufacturer. The scalability of the solution also helps them keep the data footprint in control, thereby reducing risk for data loss. “Manufacturing and an export driven approach have spurred rapid growth of the Textile industry in Sri Lanka,” said IBM Sri Lanka Country General Manager Chrishan Fernando. “This drives companies to look for advanced technology solutions for scaling up their operations. We have been delivering innovative solutions to our clients in the Textile sector and are working together closely to provide tested, optimised applications on the IBM technology.”
