Top Google executive to speak at 6th South Asia Economic Summit

Ann Lavin, Director of Policy and Government Affairs Asia-Pacific at global technology giant Google, will be delivering a speech at a Special Event on ‘Igniting Innovation and Entrepreneurship in South Asia’ at the 6th South Asia Economic Summit (SAES), taking place at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo on 4 September 2013. As Google’s Director for Public Policy and Government Affairs for Greater China and Southeast Asia, Lavin works on a range of issues including economic empowerment, content regulation, geopolitics, privacy, and general technology policy. Prior to joining Google, Lavin was a Senior Advisor with McLarty Associates, a US-based strategic advisory firm, and Vice President of the US-ASEAN Business Council, the principal US business organisation in Southeast Asia. South Asia is one of the fastest growing regions in the world; yet, various challenges remain as constraints to more dynamic and sustainable growth. Entrepreneurship, the adoption of better technology can revitalise productivity and growth across the region’s economies. The significance of this policy challenge will be debated and discussed during the 6th SAES, under the theme ‘Towards a Stronger, Dynamic and Inclusive South Asia’. The Summit is organised by Sri Lanka’s apex economic policy think tank, the Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka (IPS), and will bring together 120 experts from South Asia and beyond to discuss the current socio-economic policy challenges facing the region and to explore new strategies for inclusive growth.
