WSO2 announced yesterday that it has been recognised as a 2011 SD Times 100 award winner in the Database and Integration category.

SD Times identified WSO2 as one of the “top leaders and innovators” in the software industry, helping developers to “build the integrations that allow data to interact with applications and services, whether on the ground or in the cloud”.

This is the fourth year in a row that WSO2 has been named to the SD Times 100 list. WSO2 was also recognised as a winner in both 2010 and 2009 in the SOA & Middleware category and in 2008 in the Middleware category.

“We’re honored to be recognised for the fourth consecutive year as a leading provider of ‘code that makes the whole software-development industry succeed’ by SD Times, which is one of the world’s premier information sources for software development technology and best practices,” said Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, founder and CEO of WSO2.

“It is a strong validation of the agility and value that our lean, comprehensive open source middleware brings to enterprise implementations on premise and in the cloud.”

WSO2 develops and delivers the award-winning WSO2 Carbon lean middleware platform and WSO2 Stratos cloud middleware platform. Based on the same core framework, the two platforms work in concert to provide the only enterprise middleware that allows the same applications to be migrated on premise, to a private cloud, to the public cloud, or a cloud hybrid environment — smoothly, safely and free from cloud lock-in.

The 100% open source WSO2 Carbon is the industry’s first fully componentised middleware platform. Built on the OSGi specification, it enables developers to easily deploy and customise any of its ten WSO2 Carbon-based middleware products. This frees developers from many traditional integration challenges and provides greater flexibility and agility to meet changing enterprise demands.

WSO2 Stratos, which is built on top of and extends WSO2 Carbon, is the first 100% open source cloud platform for enterprise applications. It allows IT professionals to build and deploy applications and services with instant provisioning. WSO2 Stratos is available both as cloud-enabled application platform (CEAP) software and as a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) hosted by WSO2.
