WSO2, the lean enterprise middleware provider, today announced that it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the 'Visionaries' quadrant of a new report, Magic Quadrant for SOA Governance Technologies.

“As service-oriented architecture becomes mainstream and takes on different names, the importance of SOA governance and the technologies related to it keep increasing,” the Gartner Magic Quadrant for SOA Governance Technologies observes. The report also notes that, “Clients today prefer to buy SOA governance solutions that will serve their purpose throughout the whole SOA endeavour, governing services and artifacts through different projects from planning and design all the way to implementation operation and retirement.”

WSO2 delivers 100 per cent open source solutions to address enterprises’ design-time and run-time governance, both on-premise and in the cloud.

WSO2 Governance Registry is part of the award-winning WSO2 Carbon, the industry’s first fully componentised middleware platform, enabled by OSGi. WSO2 Governance as a Service is available both as part of the award-winning WSO2 Stratos cloud middleware platform and WSO2 StratosLive public platform-as-a-service (PaaS), hosted by WSO2 and powered by the WSO2 Stratos software.

Like all WSO2 middleware, WSO2 Governance Registry and WSO2 Governance as a Service share the same OSGi-compliant code base, enabling enterprises to deploy their governance implementations on-premise, on a private cloud, a public cloud, or hybrid cloud environment as needed.

“We have worked closely with our customers and the open source community to deliver governance solutions that combine consistent policy enforcement with highly flexible implementation models to ensure secure governance, regardless of whether applications reside on-premise or in the cloud,” said WSO2 Co-Founder and CTO Paul Fremantle. “We are excited to be positioned in the ‘Visionaries’ quadrant by Gartner. We view our position on the Magic Quadrant as confirmation of our commitment to both technology and services that meet enterprises’ real-world governance needs.”

WSO2 Governance Registry and WSO2 Governance as a Service share the same code base, enabling seamless migration across on-premise and cloud-based environments.

Each is a structured registry and repository featuring comprehensive SOA lifecycle management support.

They offer well-defined extension points for a flexible, plug-in approach to linking resources and allowing users to encode their own governance rules and policies. A governance dashboard provides run-time and design-time monitoring, while eventing and notification support is available through the application of business rules. Together with a socially enabled interface - which supports such features as rating, tagging and comments - these capabilities facilitate collaboration in the management, ranking and reuse of enterprise Web services locally or in the cloud.

As part of their OSGi-compliant modular design, both WSO2 Governance Registry and WSO2 Governance as a Service run on a common core framework that provides a consistent set of enterprise-class management, security, clustering, logging, statistics and tracing.

As a result, IT professionals can seamlessly add WSO2’s other middleware products and the 150-plus hot pluggable components on which the products are based - providing unprecedented flexibility for customising their governance implementations.

WSO2 offers a range of service and support options for WSO2 Governance Registry and WSO2 Governance as a Service, including evaluation support, special QuickStart and CloudStart consulting programs, development support, and production support. The WSO2 SOA middleware products are fully open source solutions released under the Apache License 2.0; they do not carry any licensing fees.
