Digital Commerce Ltd., a company that owns and operates the WoW.lk ecommerce site, Sri Lanka’s largest and most visited online store, recently celebrated its third year in existence, registering a record sale of Rs. 6 million on its birthday. The company had its beginnings in 2011 originally starting out as Anything.lk, Sri Lanka’s pioneer and trailblazing daily deal site. Anything.lk played a catalytic role in the evolution on ecommerce in this country by introducing the concept of deep discounted vouchers online and in doing so, gave many consumers and merchants their first digital experience. In 2012 the company expanded its online offering launching an online mall, displaying over 200 well-known brands which consumers could purchase using a variety of payment methods. Thus were laid the foundations to a journey that would create a complete online shopping experience for many Sri Lankans bringing e-commerce to their doorstep. The company, which was initially funded through a consortium of primarily International Institutional investors entered into a landmark alliance in December 2013 with Dialog Axiata PLC, the country’s largest mobile network operator, opening up many avenues to scale the scope of operations and take online shopping to all corners of the country under the WoW.lk brand. The company has invested significantly in CSR initiatives through various marketing channels which helped organisations gather funds for a cause. To date, wow.lk has over 700 merchant relationships, more than 260,000 registered customers, 15,000+ wow mall products, more than 300,000 site visits per month, making it the most visited e-commerce site in the country. The fundamental tenets of the company remain to provide comprehensive, affordable and convenient shopping experience to all sectors of under the slogan of “whatever, wherever”. “As we move on to our fourth year we are looking to continuously innovate our value offering and take WOW out to a much bigger market, whilst staying true to our mantra of bringing convenience in shopping to the consumers very much alive,” said Sheyantha Abeykoon, CEO of Digital Commerce Lanka. In line with this vision, wow.lk will seek to expand its customer base to other parts of the country, so more consumers may benefit from saving money and time while shopping.
