A new brand of mobile phones, ‘Zigo,’ was launched to the local market one year ago by CellCity Lanka Ltd., which has 16 years of industry experience and is also an ISO certified company. With Sri Lanka being a mature market in terms of high level of mobile phone penetration as well as the presence of leading international brands, Zigo had mapped out a well-thought-out strategy for making significant inroads into the market. During its first year of operations the new mobile phone device has captured the market and appealed to all customers of each of the demographic segments and has offered ‘value for money’ with devices that look and feel great while at the same time making the product available to customers in all regions of the country, through 1,500 dealers and 50 of their own service centres of repute and credibility. Zigo mobile phones which are incorporated with state-of-the-art features and a wide range of models has stood out among competitive offerings by virtue of their superior technology, user friendliness, stylish appearance and several ultra modern modem features including easy access to email and surfing the net through a choice of browsers as well as social utilities such as Facebook and Twitter. To take forward their plans of acquiring a bigger playing field in the local market, Zigo also signed up with a majority of the leading mobile operators, offering attractive bundle offers and deals for potential customers. Agreements have also been signed with all leading banks and credit card companies, enabling more customers to join the Zigo World. Zigo from its very inception in Sri Lanka understood the needs of their primary target audience, the youth and young at heart who wanted innovative devices and wanted to be connected on the go. They have therefore committed themselves to bringing innovative mobility devices, striving to cater to the ever changing needs of today’s youth. Representing the brand that is already a powerful one was the Brand Ambassador and popular cricketing star T.M. Dilshan, who is also a trend setter among the youth of the country. He was chosen to market the bland as he embodied the values of the brand and appealed and communicated well with Zigo’s target audience and represented the qualities of the brand such as ethics, demeanour, confidence and aggression. Another special aspect of Zigo mobile phones are the tablet PCs offered at competitive pricing, while boasting features which are comparable with or even better than similar offerings from other international brands. Director of Zigo Mobile Sri Lanka Upul Fernando said: “A year ago, Zigo was launched to enhance and offer customers in Sri Lanka innovative mobile products at competitive prices. Today, as we turn one year old, we are pleased to share our major achievements and will continue to accelerate and create and offer innovative technologies that revolutionise the way people interact with each other. In our first year itself, we have proven ourselves to be a dynamic and progressive organisation and we are confident that we will contribute significantly to the country’s mobile market in the years to come.” Zigo is not only not only for its innovative products, but also for its innovative marketing strategies. The company has plans of becoming the market leader in Sri Lanka in the near future and looks forward to its second year of operation and setting new heights in the Sri Lankan mobile industry.
