Community Building and Outreach are two Core Principles of Taj Group of Hotels around the world. Corporate Social Responsibility means more than a chapter in an annual report, and this is why Taj Samudra Colombo takes great pleasure in supporting  the South Asia Women’s Fund (SAWF) with their first ever fund raising project in Sri Lanka.

South Asia Women’s Fund (SAWF) is a regional fund for women based in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

This organisation works to promote and advance issues on women’s empowerment across five countries in South Asia including Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. This concert on Sunday 11 September is an event organised, not only to raise funds but also to raise awareness about the SAWF and its involvement in the South Asian region. The concert will feature performances by both local and international artists.

The Taj Samudra understands that this organisation is much more than a cause or charity. SAWF offers much needed - attention, guidance, education and resources to underprivileged and differently-abled women in Sri Lanka and the South Asian region of the world. Empowering and enriching lives of many women and their families around the region is a tremendous cause.

Renowned Indian violinist Sunita Bhuyan is the international artist for the evening. Sunita, whose music is of Hindustani style, was recently awarded the prestigious ‘Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award’ for her contribution to classical music in India. While her classical and traditional pieces are loved by many she is also reputed for her contribution to Bollywood sound tracks.

The other feature at the concert will be of Sri Lanka’s very own Elephant Foot. This group hails from the multi cultural town of Hikkaduwa. Elephant Foot brings alive multiple beats that come together in a unique fusion which is equivalent to that of the finest drum lines of the world. This upcoming and one of a kind band, is known for its ability to charge up the atmosphere and captivate its audience in the midst of refined yet exhilarating beats.

The fund raising concert will take place at the Crystal Upper Ball Room (Heritage Building) - Taj Samudra on 11 September 2011. The show is expected to commence by 6.30 p. m.
