Darshi to showcase at Russia Fashion Week

Darshi Keertisena of Buddhi Batiks will showcase at the prestigious Russia Fashion Week, which is the largest fashion week of East Europe.

This opportunity was part of the HSBC Colombo Fashion Week initiative. Moscow is one the biggest luxury markets in the world and it has a special place in the world of fashion.

HSBC Colombo Fashion Week, which is scheduled for Feb 2012, is not-for-profit initiative dedicated to the upliftment of the fashion design industry of Sri Lanka.

It is a holistic project that focuses on developing and nurturing talents of the young and high potential Sri Lankan designers, it works at creating local fashion retail infrastructure, local fabric development andstrong ethical promotion.

As a result, every year, exciting new Sri Lankan designers take center stage at this prestigious annual event.

In line with its objective HSBC Colombo Fashion Week actively works at promoting Sri Lankan fashion design talent to important international markets, for that HSBC CFW has reciprocal MOUs with Russia Fashion Week, Miami Fashion Week, Dubai Fashion Festival and Malaysia Fashion Week.

“We have come a long way and yet a long way to go, but with the promise that we see among the Sri Lankan designers the ‘long way’ may not be that far away in terms of time. Our initiative to identify, groom and retail is showing strong results.

We are very happy that Darshi will show among the best in the world. Good luck to her,” said AjaiyVir Singh, President Colombo Fashion Week.

Every year one Sri Lankan designer is selected to showcase at the above prestigious fashion weeks.

This year Darshi will showcase her line Buddhi Batiks at the prestigious Russia Fashion Week from 21-26, October 2012.

“I am so excited to show at Russia Fashion Week. I want to thank Colombo Fashion Week for what they have done to the fashion industry of Sri Lanka.

Infact my journey started with them I came into prominence at CFW 2007, and through that I showed in India. It’s a wonderful opportunity. I want to make full use of it,” she said.

From this year HSBC CFW also started identifying high potential new designers with a ‘Gen-Next’ award.

This year, Dimuthu won the recognition for his collection called Indie.  His reward was to showcase at the highly prestigious IPL Fashion shows in India, which hadthe most high profile media and guests present.
