‘A Taste of Sumatra’ at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo

What has become a culture in the food and beverage arena at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, where regularly exotic cuisine and entertainment from around the world is brought to their doorstep, this month two chefs travel to Sri Lanka from the Island of Sumatra to deliver a taste of Indonesian cuisine to the hotel’s patrons.

In collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, 10 days of exotic Sumatran food and dance comes your way every evening in the delightful Dining Room restaurant at the Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo.

Sumatran food is essentially spicy with generous quantities of chilli, lemongrass, ginger, garlic and coriander combining to form a tempting array of dishes. In fact the spiciest food in Indonesia comes from Padang in West Sumatra where the popular dish Rendang originated.

Those adventurous enough to explore new tastes and flavours can discover the diversity of this cuisine until 28 October. The Indonesian buffet will be available from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. for 10 consecutive days.

In an effort to enjoy not just the cuisine of another country but also the culture by way of dance or other performing acts, Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo often invites artistes from the country being honoured. During this promotion, five dancers are being flown in to Sri Lanka courtesy the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia who will entertain the guests while they dine.

Indonesian dance is traditionally a reflection of mythical tales that have been passed down generations. The dancers are adorned with intricate gold accessories, colourful costumes and move with grace.
