Hilton celebrates 25 years of hospitality with Street Food Festival

Commemorating their 25th year by sharing Hilton hospitality with the general public, Hilton Colombo will host the Street Cooking Festival on 25 August along the Bank Of Ceylon Mawatha, the road in front of the World Trade Centre.

With 60 of the hotel’s finest chef’s cooking up a storm at the event, a host of stalls catering Australian, American, Arabic, Chinese, English, German, French, Japanese, Indian, Italian, Mexican, Thai, Swiss, South African and Sri Lankan cuisine will be organised for the evening.

With no entrance fee and the prices of dishes ranging from Rs. 200 to Rs. 700, the aim is to get the public experience the hospitality of the leading hotel. Hilton General Manager Rudolf Troestler yesterday announcing the event stated that the hotel is committed to provide its customers with the opportunity to experience a range of cuisine from around the world at an affordable price without any compromises on taste or quality. “In celebration of our 25th year we would like to invite all food lovers to join us in a culinary journey across the globe during the event.”

The hotel expects to attract 500 to 700 people to the festival.

Along with the local favourites such as hoppers and kottu, a number of signature dishes of the hotel restaurants such as Chinese Szechwan fried rice with chicken and assorted fried dim sum, Thai satays to Japanese sushi and tempura and Arabic shawarmas will also be available at the festival. An appetising giant German bratwurst cut and served in 25cm pieces each, large American 25 cm submarines and 2.5kg giant South African Chicken boerewors in 250g portions are some of the key highlights of the festival. Hotel’s Curry Leaf restaurant’s Ravi will undertake to make hoppers in 25 hopper pans single-handedly that night.  Bars serving wines, beers and soft drinks along with juice bars will also be erected around the area. An 80 foot bar at the Dutch Hospital Shopping Precinct will be another highlight at the event.

Creating a carnival like atmosphere DJs, stilt walkers, and entertainment by leading local artistes Corren Almeida and Beat Box, Bathiya and Santhus, Iraj, Lahiru and Jananath will be hosted at the event along with a special show by the award winning flair bartender Dai who is known as the best in the country.

The festival will be open from 6p.m. at the venue. Parking facilities for the event has been organised in York Street, Lotus Road and at Hospital Road. The Bank of Ceylon Road will be closed for traffic during the evening.
