The Sunsilk-Ramani Fernando partnership took another progressive step forward when they inaugurated their first-ever regional Hair and Beauty Academy, together with City & Guilds in Kandy recently.

The academy will offer a range of courses such as diplomas, advanced courses and specialist courses in hair and beauty care. In addition to subject matter, basic modules on personal grooming, image building, English language training and corporate training.

Speaking at the occasion, Brand Manager for Sunsilk Jude Martino said: “This new endeavour stems up from a long-standing and a strong partnership with Ramani Fernando, which goes back to 2005 when Sunsilk first commenced its brand partnership with her academy.

From the very beginning Unilever was very impressed with the professional approach the academy had towards training the next generation of beauticians of Sri Lanka.”

Sunsilk is the number one hair-care brand of the Unilever portfolio and ranks as one of the Anglo-Dutch conglomerate’s “billion dollar brands”.

Sunsilk shampoos, conditioners and other hair care regimes are sold in 69 countries worldwide.

With the launch of Co-Creations programme in 2009 Sunsilk commenced work with a number of leading international hair ‘experts’ to develop new and improved products. Each hair ‘issue’ and ‘variant’ links to an ‘expert’ with the relevant specialist hair knowledge.

Ramani Fernando while welcoming the new batch of students to the Kandy academy said: “Sunsilk-Ramani Fernando Academy was born on a fine 1 September, six years ago and had a meager number of 10 students during the first month of opening, but now we have a student bank of more than 250 a year.”

Fernando talking about the Sunsilk partnership with the academy said: “I have always encouraged my students to use Sunsilk products as I believe the brand is reliable and innovative. In addition, the annual scholarships extended by Unilever Sunsilk have helped a number of deserving and talented aspiring beauticians to pursue careers in hair and beauty therapy, successfully.”

So far, more than 4,000 students have graduated from the academy and some of them have secured international acclaim in exams and creative forums.

The new Sunsilk-Ramani Fernando Academy is located at No. 05, George E de Silva Mawatha, Kandy and the first batch of students commenced their training on 5 September, drawing historical parallels with the first ever training session of the academy, six years ago.
