TNL Rocks turns 18

TNL ROCKS, the pioneer radio station in Sri Lanka, first revolutionised the airways back in 1993. It is now recognised as the benchmark for innovative radio in the country, and is now celebrating with promotions and giveaways as they turn 18 on July 23rd 2011. And while TNL RN started out as a radio network in 1993, it has now evolved to become a leading company that deals in all facets of the entertainment industry.

TNL’s reputation for conceptualizing and actualizing major promotions is well established. For example, TNL ONSTAGE, a local music competition designed to foster and promote the local music scene. Today, this event has grown to become an institution of home grown talent. ‘The Party in the Park’ –a celebration of TNL ONSTAGE 2011 finals, in conjunction with TNL ROCKS 18th birthday celebrations, is set to take place on 29th July 2011 at the Vihara Maha Devi Amphitheatre.

Having laid the foundation for music and news formats, street promotions, and on air and site programming, TNL ROCKS continues to find new and innovative avenues for reaching out to its loyal listeners. Today the TNL RN has grown to encompass 3 radio stations (TNL ROCKS -101.7 in Colombo, 92.5 Kandy, 87.9 Down South, Lite FM 89.2 in Colombo, 90 island wide, Rhythm FM 100.7 in Colombo, 95.6 Down South, and 87.6 island wide).

Conquering the social media and networking worlds are just one of the many feathers in the TNL RN cap. The Network now overseas up to 7 high-traffic web sites (including a social network platform called TNL LIFE, an online gift store –TNL DOT ME, and our main TNL ROCKS website). TNL RN also offer rewards to listeners by way of our loyalty card, the TNL VIP Card, which continues to be a runaway success after its initial launch 8 years ago.

While adhering to the contemporary hit radio (CHR) Top 40 format, TNL Rocks is also renowned for its international programming which includes the world famous Ryan Seacrest’s AT40 countdown which airs on weekend mornings at 10am, rock star Nikki Sixx’s Sideshow Countdown, and Spencer James with from the UK with his Expat Chart show.

TNL RN created history in 1998 as it became the first station in Asia to broadcast a LIVE stream via the internet.

TNL RN also won the NAB International Away for Broadcast Excellence in 1996 and has received numerous international accolades in recognition of our broadcast services which is on par with international standards, since that time.
