Right in the middle area of the commercial/residential Kirula Road (Colombo 5) is an infamous bar (liquor) catering mainly to three wheel-drivers and similar types.

The vehicles which come there are parked irresponsibly, blocking the entrances of residents and commercial establishments in the area. As most of the drivers are under the influence of alcohol this leads to very unpleasant experiences for these rate paying residents.

Now, we even observe Government vehicles parked near this bar, and more shockingly, during working hours.

On Wednesday (20 September) parked near the bar was vehicle No. NB 3382 which belonged to the Youth Council going by the emblem. This vehicle was parked there from about 2 p.m. until about 5 p.m.

Then on Friday (22 September) vehicle No. KA 9781 with the insignia that it belonged to the President’s Office was parked there at about 4 p.m. for about an hour. In this era of transparency and right to information, it will be really good if the authorities do a check on the movement cards of these vehicles to find out what they were doing for this long parked near a notorious bar.
