The President of Sri Lanka in very simple language has asked the Prime Minister to ask Arjuna Mahendran to go home. Now, he made this statement on 14 July.
The Financial Times of yesterday shows a picture of the President receiving a token from the much-ridiculed Governor Mahendran.
The picture was taken on 9 July. Why did it take so long to release the picture to the media? To me this means that Governor Mahendran is trying to hoodwink and mislead the public.
Someone not reading the story only seeing the picture would assume the President visited the Central Bank after his statement. Is he trying to fool the public? Anyway what is the shameless Mahendran waiting for, the President of the country has asked him to go. Go at least now and save the Government and Sri Lanka.
Ironically, the former Governor in the same paper talks of the loss of the bond to Sri Lanka.
His calculation is that it is around Rs. 60 billion.
The current Governor cannot function any more with any respect. His behavior reflects very badly on our people.
It is in his interest to go before 17 August. I hope he knows what self-respect and credibility are.
