This is to bring to the attention of the Chief Accountant /General Manager of Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) that the meter reader having visited my brother-in-law’s residence this Monday 14 September (at the end of 32 days) has entered the number of units consumed as at 14 September 2015 and dated it 13 Sunday, the last date on which he was due to visit.
Apart from overcharging the consumer (by charging the 32 days consumption for 31 days) and back dating, I do not know whether the meter reader will be claiming overtime payments for “Sunday’s work” when he really did the job on Monday, as it is also possible that he had reported to work on Sunday and had not done his job which was due on this day? The reason for back dating may be the meter reader playing truant on Sunday.
Hope the CEB will not be overcharging its consumers when it is supposed to implement the new tariff which is expected to be in favour of the consumer. I think that the current pay off line of CEB ‘Enrich life through power’ should be changed to ‘Ripping off consumers through power – unnoticed, unrealised!’
I hope that the Power and Energy Minister Siyambalapitiya will ensure that consumers are not fleeced and also the CEB by the meter readers?
