Unsuccessful sewerage project covering De Soysa Flats, Angulana Station Road and suburbs

A so-called sewerage project was started in 2010 in Ratmalana and Moratuwa areas for drainage of rain and waste water in and around the designated environs.

For at least five years, people in the area had to suffer immensely due to the never-ending excavation work, resulting in muddy and dusty conditions depending on the weather. Many people including children suffer respiratory and breathing disorders due to these adverse conditions.

In the latter part of 2014 (probably before some election), part of the Angulana Station Road was carpeted with asphalt and the rest was tarred, leaving a rough surface. Some of the adjoining and connecting roads also received the same treatment.

Now we are in the year 2016 and still the people have not received any benefit out of this project. Sections of these roads continue to be excavated from time to time and left incomplete and in an unacceptable state. These areas are unbearably dusty during dry weather and extremely muddy and soggy during rainy weather.

Millions of the people’s hard-earned money would have been spent on this project. However, no one has benefited. The authorities do not seem to monitor this project, nor are they concerned with the hardship suffered by residents in these areas.

Who is responsible for this? Now that there is a new Government that was formed to usher in ‘Good Governance’ and to solve the problems of the people, can we expect something to happen?

Eran Wickramaratne, this is over to you for urgent attention and prompt action.
