The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) of Sri Lanka has jointly facilitated a charity concert in aid of scholarships for more than 20 orphans from the Easter attacks, to be held at Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) on 13 July at 6 p.m.
The concert is organised by ICC Sri Lanka, in partnership with BMICH, AIA Insurance, Cinnamon Life, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Daily Financial Times, BBDO Lanka, HSBC bank and Derana TV. ICC Sri Lanka Chairman Dinesh Weerakkody told the media that the BMICH has offered to lend the main hall for the event without any cost, while all artists are also to perform free of charge.
“We have identified more than 20 children orphaned by the Easter attacks. The money will be put into their bank accounts and when they are 18 years of age, they will be given access to the cash. People are also invited to contribute money for this cause on the day of the event and we will have a bank account where they can contribute to. One member country of the ICC has already contributed an amount towards the event,” Weerakkody stated. BDDO Managing Director and KL.lk Chairman and CEO Santosh Menon explained the objectives for organising such an event and explained that the sense of unity and solidarity shown by fellow Sri Lankans towards the victims of the attacks, the ones who were grieving and wounded, were what they are hoping will bring together people to help this cause.
“The concert is named as ‘21/4 We Care’ and it is to represent Sri Lankans standing for the unity of their fellow citizens. The colours used for the promotional posters are incorporated from the National flag and the visual symbol is the map of Sri Lanka with musical elements,” he added. Bathiya and Santhush, Rukantha and Chandraleka Gunathilake, Alston Koch, Billy Fernando, De Lanerolle Brothers, Dushyanth Weeraman, Stephanie Siriwardena, Sohan Weerasinghe, Raini Gunathilake, Voice Print, and Dumi Fernando are some of the artists who have confirmed to perform at this event so far.
BMICH Director/Chief Executive Officer Sunil Dissanayake, AIA Insurance Chief Executive Officer Nikhil Advani, ACCA Network Panel member Jehan Perinpanayagam, and JE Corp Affairs CEO Ruwan Senanayake expressed their gratitude in being able to be a part of this worthy cause and thanked the ICC Sri Lanka for initiating such an event.
Tickets priced at Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000 for balcony are on sale at ICC Sri Lanka Secretariat, Aitken Spence Towers Vauxhall Street, ACCA Secretariat Parkland, and Cinnamon Life website.
