95 years of timeless glamour – The CJS legacy continues

Unveiling a spectacular collection that embraces the quintessence of the CJS legacy, Colombo Jewellery Stores celebrated ninety five years of timeless glamour, showcasing the raison d’etre that its artistry and creativity that yet remains infinitely eternal. 

Reliving the timeless beauty and grace of eras past and intertwining those with an avant garde twist, the sparkle of diamonds takes the spotlight in all its magnificence, while lustrous rubies, radiant emeralds and resplendent blue sapphires enfold each design with a powerful femininity.

Each pair of earrings, bracelet, ring, cuff or necklace is a bold statement that articulates the empowered woman of today; the woman who has been inspired by generations, showing immense strength and confidence while enjoying her inherent femininity displayed in timeless beauty, grace and style. 

Appreciating the custom of discerning clientele who have remained loyal to CJS through its journey, CJS Chairman Akram Cassim hosted a glittering event at the CJS flagship store at Alfred House Gardens.

While showcasing the breath-taking 95 designs created specifically for this anniversary, the spotlight fell on three magnificent diamond sets that were modelled during the evening; a leaf design invisible setting diamond collection in white gold holding a 530 marquise and princess cut diamond weighing 21 carats, a pigeon blood red ruby and diamond necklace with a stunning 44 rubies and 20 carats of diamonds in a matching set of earrings of rubies and marquise diamonds in white gold and upholding the CJS legend for classic style in a V shape diamond necklace with its 200 marquise, pear and round diamonds weighing 20 carats, marquise and round diamond earstuds and bracelet enfolding 12 carat diamonds, all set in white gold. 

Recollecting the CJS journey that began in 1922 when his grandfather Thaha Cassim set down his roots in Galle and built a business that even today remains true to its triad of fundamentals of uncompromising quality, unmatched craftsmanship and unparalleled creativity, Cassim said: “This collection epitomises the legacy that he envisioned, 95 years ago. Diamonds, while they are a girl’s best friend as the saying goes, also holds another title: Diamonds are forever. And it is this that inspired me to give pride of place to diamonds because CJS has built a true legacy that continues to stand the test of time. Each of the 95 pieces is handcrafted to showcase that legacy taking us through a journey from 1922, portraying the elegance and style of each era, while imbuing the enigmatic strength that women possess in their beauty and femininity.” 

In a throwback look and feel, some designs are timelessly classic reminiscent of film stars of yesteryear or banquets in colonial mansions, veiled in softness but pronouncing statements of elegance. Swirls and twirls of diamonds encasing rubies, emeralds and blue sapphires speak of these; the love of life and dazzling celebrations. Then, large matt gold teardrops with twinkling diamonds and iridescent diamonds framed in mahogany are surely the language of contemporary style for the woman of substance.

The daring reds of rubies showcase intensity and underlying power, while a palette of green emerald hues express the vibrancy of remaining young, positive and upbeat. But each is bold and vivacious or poignant and nostalgic, embracing a hint of romance or a touch of solitude.
