Cinnamon’s Resort Hotels proudly invite guests to share the joy of Avurudu with their loved ones at their outstanding properties located around the country.
The Avurudu festival celebrates the dawn of the Sinhalese and Tamil New Year and guests can experience this vibrant Sri Lankan celebration while basking in the entertainment and hospitality offered by Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts.
Cinnamon’s resort hotels now have a dedicated 24x7 call centre where guests can make reservations at any time of the day to join the Avurudu festivities.
At each resort, guests can enjoy a delicious celebratory feast and participate in many culturally inspired events and games throughout the day for the most memorable Avurudu!
Cinnamon Bey Beruwala, the resort loved for its close proximity to Colombo will kick start its Avurudu celebrations with a number of attractions such as a cultural show by the poolside, raban players, demonstration by a traditional cinnamon peeler, an ice cream bicycle, traditional wood carving demonstration, herbal hot beverage and pickle corner, traditional sweetmeat action station, arrack bar and toddy hut with spicy nibbles and a live demonstration by a toddy tapper.
The ‘Korale Walawwa’, ‘Gama Gedara’, ‘Kopi Kade’ and ‘Avurudu Swing’ constructed will also add to the ambience of this festival. A variety of fun and games including a bun eating competition, lime on spoon race, eyeing the elephant, ‘Sangavunu Amuththa’, ‘Bey Singithi Avurudu Kumari and Kumaraya have been organized for children, while adults can participate in tug-of-war, kotta pora, kana mutti, sac race and a beer drinking competition.
Trinco Blu by Cinnamon will be converted to a traditional village setting, where Avurudu celebrations will commence by lighting the traditional oil lamp and boiling milk at the ‘Gama Gedara’ amidst the sound of fire crackers. Kids can participate in games such as bun eating competition, lime on spoon race, eyeing the elephant and balloon bursting while adults can participate in tug-of-war, kotta pora, kana mutti, passing of a water filled balloon (for couples), blind feeding and ’Blu Avurudu Kumari and Kumaraya. Guests can also indulge in a special mouth-watering Avurudu lunch to top it all off.
Cinnamon Citadel Kandy, famous for its scenic location among the hills will celebrate Avurudu at their lawn by the river, providing guests with a beautiful back drop to enjoy the festivities. In addition to the same Avurudu games and activities available at other locations Cinnamon Citadel Kandy has also organised games and actives such as egg passing, musical chairs and ‘greese gahe nageema’. They will also have a traditional sweetmeat action station, a ‘kope kade’, a toddy hut, an ice cream man and a king coconut man.
Habarana Village by Cinnamon and Cinnamon Lodge Habarana will present scrumptious traditional and trendy Avurudu buffets in keeping with the rich flavour of the cultural triangle. Guests will have a wide range of tantalising Sri Lankan delicacies to choose from and enjoy with their loved ones. In addition to the Avurudu games and activities available at other properties Habarana Village by Cinnamon will host a movie night for kids while Cinnamon Lodge Habarana will have a coconut scraping competition, find the coin the flour, saruvath bar, kata pola and booru pola, a sarawita man, a pineapple man, a kamatha, a palm reader, candy floss shop and a clay pot demonstration.
