All good things combine at The Cauldron, the shiny new coffee house that opened doors in Stratford Avenue, Colombo 6 recently.

Happy chatter blended with the aroma of coffee and delicious food make up the atmosphere. Run by husband and wife duo Dushanthi Wimaladasa and Tharanga Perera, this is a welcome addition to Colombo’s love affair with good food and good coffee.

The interior of The Cauldron is furnished with soothing pastel colours and vintage furniture that exudes a feeling of nostalgia soaked in modern urban living. Comfortable furniture suitable for leisure or work are scattered throughout the interior with a dedicated room for any artsy type of function.

“The space is dedicated to the dreamers who believe that positive change is possible when all good things are combined,” says Tharanga Perera who’s been in the in food and beverage industry for many years. Together he and wife Dushanthi Wimaladasa wanted to build a cosy, comfortable, bubbly place that combined amazing food with awesome people.

The Cauldron encourages visitors to embrace freedom. Even the food is messy. “You can’t eat a pol roti burger with a fork and spoon!” exclaims Tharanga who is excited to unveil an interesting fusion menu that combines Sri Lankan classics with inspiration from Italian and Western cuisine.

Pol roti kottu with chicken on the side topped with cauldron gravy, Pol Pani Pancakes and Kochchi Chicken Waffles with Hot Maple Sauce are some of must-try items on the menu. Then there’s the Hot Chocolate which is fast becoming The Cauldron’s signature drink since opening earlier this month.

The cosy, bubbly, homely place is the latest addition to the artisan street of Stratford Avenue, fondly known as ‘Gandhara Street’ created by Dian Gomez. The staff consists of five charismatic young people who want to give an edge over the way guests experience service, thereby creating a unique marker at The Cauldron compared with other coffee shops. Tharanga and his team envision for the space to include art, music and spirit to inspire everyone to ‘create’ while indulging in delicious food and drink.

The Cauldron invites you to drop by and indulge in all that they have to offer. Please visit their Facebook page www.facebook.com/thecauldronlk for more information.
