‘Fast & Furious 9’ to rev up Lankans in 26 cinemas

The popular American action film ‘Fast & Furious 9’ (F9) will be screened in 26 Sri Lankan cinemas from today. It is the ninth main installment and the 10th full-length film in the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise. 

The cinemas are Liberty By Scope, Colombo City Center, Majestic Cinema – Colombo, Majestic Cinema – Jaffna, Sky Lite Malabe, Milano – Kegalle, Tarzan – Kagalle, Maxx Lite – Moratuwa, Vista Lite – Ja Ela, NIT Kurunegala, NIT Rathnapura, Dinusha – Nawalapitiya, PVR – Cinema, Raja – Jaffna, Suganthi Batticaloa, Nelson Trinco, G.K. – Kalmunai, Regal Gampaha, Regal Dematagoda, Amity Maharagama, Savoy – Rajagiriya, CK Kirindiwela, Don Plaza – Kalutara, Sky Lite Matara, Sinexpo – Kurunegala and Savoy 3D – Colombo.

This is first major movie release in Sri Lanka after cinemas were allowed to resume screening with health and safety protocols amidst the third wave of the COVID pandemic. 

Directed by Justin Lin from a screenplay by Daniel Casey and Lin, F9 stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Michael Rooker, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell, and Charlize Theron. 

So far F9 has grossed over $623 million worldwide as of July 2021, making it the third-highest-grossing film of 2021, the highest-grossing American film of 2021, and the highest grossing English-language film of 2021.

In F9, Dominic Toretto and the team come together to stop a world-shattering plot headed by Toretto’s brother, Jakob. Dom Toretto is living the quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, but they know that danger always lurks just over the peaceful horizon. This time, that threat forces Dom to confront the sins of his past to save those he loves most. His crew soon comes together to stop a world-shattering plot by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered – Dom’s forsaken brother.
