HelpAge X’mas cards proceeds to fund cataract surgeries for elders

The sale proceeds are utilised to perform free cataract surgeries for less-privileged senior citizens

The name HelpAge Sri Lanka and X’mas greeting cards refresh the minds of young and old people, especially during the Christmas season. Everybody knows that this year’s Christmas season is coming closer and all are awaiting to celebrate this glorious day. Like in the past this 2021 too HelpAge has released over 400,000 Christmas greeting cards.

With Christmas coming closer people would also like to help each other in many ways. As in previous years many people are in the habit of contributing towards the welfare of less-privileged elders in our society. Many people are purchasing HelpAge Christmas greeting cards to greet their friends, relations and loved ones. 

The proceeds of the sale of Christmas cards are utilised to perform free cataract surgeries for less-privileged senior citizens over 55 years. The surgeries are done at HelpAge Eye Hospital, Wellawatte (opposite Savoy Cinema).

The greeting cards are adorned with colourful photographs, paintings and graphic designs which are embossed and foiled. 

The cards are already on sale at very reasonable prices at all leading bookshops including M.D. Gunasena, Sarasavi, Vijitha Yapa and Unique Creations and at the HelpAge Head Office at No. 102. Pemananda Mawatha, Raththanapitiya, Boralesgamuwa.

HASL Executive Director Samantha Liyanawaduge requests people to extend their support to this worthy cause to improve the vision of underprivileged elders. He said senior citizens could have their cataract surgeries completely free of charge at the HelpAge Eye Hospital, which is open to the public on all weekdays except public holidays and Poya days.

HelpAge Fund Raising Coordinator Kodikara said the cards could also be personalised free of charge with company names and logos. He said the cataract surgeries were performed with the latest technology and high quality Intraocular Lenses (IOLs) at the HelpAge Eye Hospital.
