Highlighting the esoteric mysteries and exotic beauty of diverse cultures that came together on the fabled silk route, Kadambari which specialises in one of a kind ‘storytelling’ craft pieces and Colombo’s exclusive sari boutique Rithihi combine their unique artistry in aid of the Sunera Foundation. ‘Colours of The Silk Road’ is a High Tea Fashion and Jewellery Show billed for Monday 27 November at 5 p.m. at the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Colombo.

With the promise of the signature Hilton hospitality adding to the exclusivity of the show, Kadambari and Rithihi will place a beautifully crafted collection of exotic handmade jewellery perfectly matched with Rithihi’s hallmark of beautifully curated saris and clothing on the runway.  Each runway piece is available for sale after the show.  Proceeds will go towards an expansive range of projects mooted by The Sunera Foundation, an organisation that believes in equality across humanity and works towards integrating persons with disabilities into communities and broader Sri Lankan society.

The Silk Road, a journey that spanned from China to Persia between 600 AD and 1200 AD, etched tales of multiple cultures, diverse faiths and awe-inspiring craft that came together to spawn a richness of life cascading to the far corners of the East. The craftsmanship on the ramp will showcase this richness, the collaboration of nations that traded jade and silk from China, lapis lazuli from the Himalayas and other precious gems from Rome, Persia, India and Afghanistan, coveted as they were by European empires and resulting in the intermingling of artistic canvasses that even today prompts magical reverence.

Kadambari Jewels is inspired by jewellery seen across ancient civilisations on this silk route, with each piece designed and crafted around a mystical tale of the past, but with a touch of the contemporary to influence a vignette of modernity. These stories are artistically combined with the creative dialogue that Rithihi espouses with weaves crafted across the subcontinent, positing a canvas of wearable art that articulates the inherent beauty of the modern woman.

With the Premier Sponsor being Hilton Colombo, the event has as its Salon Partner Salon Kess, Event Partner Event Productions, Creative Partner Bates Strategic Alliance and Print Media Sponsor Daily Mirror Life, Sunday Times, Daily FT, Life Online and Hi Magazine.  Tickets are available at Rithihi, Alfred House Gardens and Hilton Colombo, priced at Rs. 2,500.
