Lanka Alzheimer’s Foundation celebrates 10 years of Scrabble with Scrabble Bash on Saturday

Lanka Alzheimer’s Foundation (LAF) will hold its Scrabble Bash on Saturday. Seniors can look forward to participating once again in this annual event which has been held since 2009 where another fun day is theirs to enjoy! Opened to juniors as well, the tournament has become highly competitive in addition to lending a fun element to the tournament! The Scrabble Bash is being held on Saturday, 23 February from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  

Scrabble is known to be one of the many games promoted to stimulate brain activity. It also reduces loneliness and depression which are risk factors for dementia. An ideal game it is to get brain cells working as you need to constantly come up with new words which results in maximum scoring.Studies have suggested that the decades of playing intensive Scrabble has positive effects on cognitive abilities. 

Today, schools have introduced it into their curriculum as well which confirms the advantages of playing Scrabble. The Foundation looks forward to maximum participation as well as sponsorship from the community to enable more seniors to participate. Players must remember to bring their own Scrabble Boards.The entry fee is Rs.2,500 per participant. LAF is grateful for any level of sponsorship. Lunch and refreshments will be provided during the day to participants only.
