SLPA to host 5th Kolomthota Vesak Zone in a grand scale

The annual Kolomthota Vesak Zone, organised by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) for the 5th consecutive year, is scheduled to be held as a three-day programme during the evening hours until midnight on 29 and 30 April, and 1 May at the SLPA’s Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi Premises. 

The  Kolomthota Vesak Zone is aimed at enhancing moral and spiritual values of employees working at the SLPA, and all affiliated public and private sector organisations, improving mindfulness in their socio-work environments and promoting the creation of a better society through Buddhist artistic literary practices. 

The innovative three-day Vesak zone will also include Buddhist bakthi song events, Vesak dansals, cultural presentations, colourful Buddhist pandols, a unique Vesak lantern festival and competition. 

The Vesak lantern festival and competition that will be held with the participation of the SLPA, Sri Lanka Navy and several other outside participants.  Participants will be able to win financial rewards for their presentations upon selection of the winners in two distinctive categories. 

For the convenience of all who visit the three-day Vesak zone three main rice dansals will be held among other escorted dansals. 

The SLPA’s 5th Kolomthota Vesak Zone is to be held in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Police and the Buddhist Association of Sri Lanka. It will be a more systematic program than the previous year through the implementation by a special committee established under the guidance of the Chief Patron, Colombo District Chief Incumbent Ven. Panditha Nikula Pannasara Thera, and the initiative of SLPA Vice Chairman P. G. Dissanayake. 

The Communication and Public Relations Division of SLPA facilitates a full-time telecast of the three-day Vesak program from 29 April that will be available on www.slpa.lk and YouTube.
