Siddhalepa Ayurveda Health Resort, Wadduwa with an Ayurveda heritage of over 200 years, organised a promotion and information event on Sri Lanka Ayurveda and Hela Wedakama at the Sri Lanka High Commission in London, United Kingdom recently with the partnership of SriLankan Airlines and Sri Lanka High Commission.
Health and Medical tourism sectors are growing at a higher rate after the COVID-19 pandemic and Sri Lanka Ayurveda, yoga, meditation and health food are becoming popular among the British travellers.
The Sri Lankan Ayurveda awareness session was organised aiming at increasing awareness of the Sri Lankan indigenous medical system – ‘Hela Wedakama’ among the British health professionals, travel agents and health and wellness travel writers. The key experts in the health sector including veteran Ayurveda doctors based in the UK participated at the session and contributed to the sessions and were able to identify Sri Lanka’s competitive advantage in providing solutions to concerns and problems of British travellers.
Sri Lanka High Commission Minister Commercial Somasena Mahadiulwewa, delivered the welcome address and Deputy High Commissioner Manorie Mallikaratchy delivered the introduction to Sri Lanka Tourism and Ayurveda, and its potential to improve the arrivals of British tourists. She also extended her fullest support in promoting Ayurveda Tourism to Sri Lanka.
The main presentation was delivered by Siddhalepa Group Chairman and Managing Director Asoka Hettigoda, who addressed the gathering and explained the history of Sri Lanka Hela Wedakama and Ayurveda going back over 5,000 years to reign of Great King Ravana, who is considered as the father of Sri Lanka’s Ayurveda.

Two winners were selected from the participants and awarded a one-week stay on full board with Ayurveda treatment and transfers at the Siddhalepa Ayurveda Health Resort. SriLankan Airlines offered the air tickets for the same persons to visit Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan High Commission in the United Kingdom extended its best cooperation in making the awareness session a success. The session was organised to mark the 90th year celebration of Siddhalepa Ayurveda in 2024.
