Sri Lankan jewellery designer wins international MIJF Award 2020

Chamal Jayaratne, Sri Lanka’s award-winning jewellery and watch designer, has won the Most Outstanding Award at the MIJF Jewellery Design International Competition 2020. In addition, Chamal has won the Ring category and final round award in the Earring category, and has been awarded the GIA Thailand Scholarship for these achievements.

To continue the vision of elevating the local and international jewellery design industry towards higher standard, MIJF Jewellery Design Awards has returned in its 9th edition this year. Amazed by the great success from the entries in previous editions, the 9th MIJF Jewellery Design Awards received more than 750 participating entries from over 26 countries around the world despite the global pandemic. With the given theme of ‘Nature Glory’ where the designers have to use their outstanding designing skills and creativity to present their perspectives and ideas that interpret the enchanting and stunning aesthetic properties of Nature Glory for four different categories.

Chamal Jayaratne previously 2018 Presidential Gold Award winner for best Designer NGJA Sri Lanka, 2017 Award of Distinction USA ‘The Spotlight is on you’ jewellery design contest – JCK Las Vegas show, 2016 Platinum Award Basel World Design contest Switzerland where his creation ‘Secret of the Sea’, which took his design to the world-class jewellery exhibition stage, 2016 Silver Award – JUNWEX 2016 Best Design Competition, Moscow Russia, 2015 Silver Award Solidscape Basel world Design Competition Switzerland, 2015 Third place ELLE Design Worldwide competition – USA 2015 has won national and international awards.
