BLAZE
For the fourth consecutive year, Chokolaate Centrestage, organised by the leading teen magazine Chokolaate, is back in full swing. The event will showcase the talents of many young solo singers, groups, beat-boxers and even group beat-boxers as they take centre stage to compete for the coveted prize, at the Bishops College Auditorium on 20 October.
The show-stopping Solo category talent will comprise Catherine Perera (21), Aksen Nanayakkara (16), Sadushi Pathirana (20), Vihanga Perera (18), Daniel Lakshman (18), Ashanya Premadasa (15), Asher Daniel (18), Vidara Kannagara (18), Tharusha Karunasekara (13) and Shaun Cooray (13). Aside from the dazzling talent of the Solo category, the Groups category and the Bands category are rumoured to bring performances of a lifetime.
The Groups category will see three groups competing this year. ‘Deborah and Catherine’ features Deborah Almeida (20) and Solo category artist Catherine Perera (21). The second group is a female artist duo named Sherlene Anthony (20) and Niseni Hewamallika (18). The category will be concluded with a performance by sisters Vidara (18) and Disara Kannangara (17).
The Bands category will definitely bring the heat with five bands competing this year. One of the contenders, Gravity SL, comprises Raveen Sandul (19), Ashen Ranaweera (20), Praveen Gunawansa (20), Yasith Rashmina (19) and Nisal Sathsara (20).
The band ‘Jammy’ numbers eight talented young men and women: Thishan Shanulka (20), Shenal Radeesha (20), Pehan Randipa (17), Siyom Sandeep (18), Siyumini Opayangi (14), Malintha Dilshan (19), Dinura Nimanulka (21) and M.A Shavinda Prasad (20).
‘Nexus’ consists of Aaron Perera (18), Jason Harding (17), Aundre Speldewinde (22), and Shanell Denipitiya (17), while ‘Minister’ has seven members – Oniesh De Mel (20), Manuja Fernando (21), Sachin Chathuranga (20), Venusha De Saa (19), Dasheen Mendis (19, Pulasthi Abhishek (19) and Yoshitha Tharuka (19).
‘Octavia’ will take the stage with members Dinuka Kathriarachchi (15), Dulan Thathsara (16), Yasas Weliwata (16), Adish Ediriweera (16), Senaru Rathnayake (17) and Rashmi Gunawardana (16). Nipun Fernando (19) and Ahmed Rifdhan (20) will face off in the Beatbox Battle. In the newest category Beatboxing Groups, the first group ‘Blaze’ is a five-man effort. They are Lakshan Wijesooriya (20), Ahmed Rifdhan (20), Sashvinth Ravinath (20), Dahan Ranawana (20) and Avineash Amarnath. The members of the second group ‘Beatz’ are Nipun Fernando (19), Onel Sumanaweera (17) and Radil Kodipilli (17).
