It is indeed lovely to have a day dedicated to celebrate the people we love the most. Fathers’ Day is one such occasion that presents the opportunity to commemorate the love and heroism of the personal supermen in our lives.
The earliest history of Fathers’ Day dates back to the ruins of Babylon. So from the times of carving our greetings on clay cards, to the more elaborate Fathers’ day greetings we see today, the core of the message has been appreciation.
The Kingsbury celebrated Fathers’ Day with a grand buffet spread on 15 June. Three restaurants were full with guests who treated their dads to this feast, resulting in a cheerful buzz at the hotel right throughout the afternoon. The event on the whole ventured to celebrate and appreciate fathers, by creating a day that made them feel extra special.
The theme for the day was ‘Seafood Fantasy’, and the brunch was an elaborate spread of delicacies consisting of oysters, caviar and lobster, ranging from a wide variety of cuisines from Asian, American, European, Chinese and Japanese preparations all served under one roof. With live entertainment, along with a guest spot by Sohan Weerasinghe and grand prizes, the event was not only a treat to fathers, but to the family as a whole.
Among the grand prizes that were on offer, one lucky dad won a holiday package for his entire family on full board basis at Amaya Beach Passikudah, whilst another lucky dad won a German Thermo Electric Car Cooler from Gilbert & Co. and the third lucky dad was a winner of a genuine Thai Spa treatment from the Senses Spa. A lovely, hearty gesture was the family portraits that could be captured at the premise with compliments from the hotel; this allowed families to return home with a framed memory from one of the best days they’ve spent together.
One of the highlights of The Kingsbury’s Fathers’ Day celebration was a complimentary hummer ride around Colombo, courtesy of Casons. The bright and sparkling cherry red Hummer ride was indeed a thriller amongst the dads and it even made great moments of father son bonding. Another highlight was the stretch-limousine ride to The Kingsbury Father’s Day Brunch and back. This ride promised to be not only a glorious one, but also an indulgent ride of a lifetime, to the whole family.
The winners of the complimentary stretch limousine ride were Sumanasena and family from Pelawatte. The winner’s daughter residing in Australia paid for a fabulous Fathers’ day treat for her whole family, which resulted in a fantastic limo ride to the hotel, having being served champagne in style. The family members consisting of the parents, two daughters living with them and the family of one of the daughters were thrilled about the whole experience. The youngest in the family thanked The Kingsbury for a wonderful opportunity that afforded the chance to thank their father in grand style that befitted him only too well.
All in all, Fathers’ Day at The Kingsbury was a thrilling, touching, tantalising event, all rolled into one. The hotel has always sought to serve its discerning guests with the best of hospitality. This time over, it has indeed redefined the meaning of appreciation.
