The dawn of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year was a joyous and a memorable one at the Cinnamon Hotels in the City. As an indigenous brand that treasures local culture and tradition, the three properties – Cinnamon Grand Colombo, Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo and Cinnamon red followed the auspicious timing of the New Year, observing local customs and rituals and sharing the joy of true Sri Lankan spirit with guests and well-wishers. At Cinnamon Grand, the New Year was celebrated in a typical village setting, recreating the festivities of a bygone era. The village in the city Nuga Gama was the perfect venue for the celebration, honouring tradition with fun local games and activities such as kana mutti, gunny bag race, lime and spoon race, aliyataehathabima. Over 200 patrons partook in the day’s activities and enjoyed the local flavours through a large spread of seasonal sweetmeats and fare. Cinnamon Lakeside and Cinnamon red also gathered their guests to give them the true ‘Avurudu’ experience by inviting them to partake in the ceremonies. Following thecustomary practice, guests together with the management lit a hearth and boiled milk, calling for prosperity in the New Year, followed by enjoying a traditional meal at the lobby level of each hotel. Cinnamon red also hosted a special Avurudu Dinner for the first time, ensuring that the celebrations and feasting continued well into the night.
