Elegant long-stemmed candelabras embraced by chic upholstered sofas with a touch of the avant garde, all seated comfortably on hand-tufted silk carpets beckons the sophisticated, the trendy and the stylish to venture into the city’s newest lifestyle concept store Clove Republic. Unmistakably chic, the store cannot be missed on the now buzzing environs of Thalawathugoda Road, Pita Kotte.  There is a touch of Greece in the Baroque nuanced architecture of the limestone-finish three-storied building with its mosaic courtyard flaunting the Greek mythology inspired Clove Republic logo.  But just walk up those three steps and enter a veritable Treasure Trove of stunning furniture, accessories, carpets, drapery wall art and wall paper, sourced from the concept portfolios of some of the world’s most sought after haute couture designers.  dfyh

The style within the store is utterly neo-classical, but according to Ranjala Illeperuma, Clove Republic is all about individual style.  “What you see in the store is my taste, handpicked by my husband Uditha and myself, because interiors is our passion.  But, it excites me to talk to someone, analyse their individual style and work with them to source what they like and execute their lifestyle concepts into a work of art.”

Works of art is the signature at Clove Republic.  There are symphonic orchestrations that flow from each hand-picked scented candle to each swatch of hand-knotted upholstery, embossed designer wallpaper and indoor or outdoor carpet; every console, sofa, coffee table, bed and customised linen embracing it, showcases a collection that is luxurious and unique.  Gunmetal, Copper and Gold lacquered furniture, is the hallmark of Clove Republic - also considered popular contemporary lifestyle concepts in Europe. Fabric choices for upholstery too come in an enviable range, whether damask, embossed, hand-knitted, bamboo infused or even silk spun, with matching cushions for that added nuance of comfort.

“We have the ability to produce anything a customer desires and customise existing designs to suit their needs. Basically we can individualise your entire home the way you want it.  Even if you want a particular piece of art like Van Gogh’s Daffodils or Da Vinci’s Monalisa or even a photograph that you like, this can be superimposed or hand tufted on a carpet for instance.  Very simply, Clove Republic is about giving our customers the entirety of total home interior lifestyle solutions,” says Uditha.

This certainly is a unique phenomenon in the interior lifestyle space in Colombo, adding to the fact that each luxury product displayed within the store and on catalogue, cannot be found anywhere else in the country.  “Sri Lankans are now more selective and Clove Republic’s discerning portfolio brings those luxury products, well suited to these selective tastes.  And it’s not just the portfolio of products that we offer, it’s the total consultation, conceptualisation, implementation and final execution to finally give our customer a work of art that they can proudly live in, very comfortably,” explains Ranjala.  “It’s about offering the entirety of total home interior lifestyle solutions.”

She adds that it is her passion for creating spaces and collecting unique design pieces that lured her husband and her to develop an interior lifestyle concept that brings together elegance, comfort and pleasure.  “Clove Republic actually offers a glimpse into our world and everything that moves us; it is a collection that is inspired by our experiences, simple pleasures, passions and life events that have shaped us.  We want to share that and also give others the opportunity to enjoy those passions, crafting them the way they want it into their individual lifestyles.”
