AICON, an iconic lifestyle store with a difference

By Fathima Riznaz Hafi Arpico Hyde Park Corner launched AICON, a lifestyle store with a difference, on Tuesday, in the presence of several distinguished guests. Situated on the first floor of Arpico, AICON extends across a large, roomy area with spaces devoted specifically to and labelled as ‘Iconic Gift Ideas,’ ‘Living Space,’,‘Fine Dining’ and ‘Garden’. Upon entering the store, the feeling of tranquillity embraces the shopper owing to the ambience created through the soft lighting as well as the display of earthy tones of brick red, brown, green and black, and light shades on the items on display. Creativity, quality and elegance are undoubtedly part and parcel of not only the atmosphere but all the items on show. At the ‘Gift Ideas’ area, the items on offer range from eccentric pieces to the more conventional ones; the ‘Living Space’ area offers bed linens and bath towels that carry a blend of calm, soothing colours and textures; the ‘Garden’ area displays pretty little potted plants and garden lamps that could be a welcome addition to one’s own garden and the ‘Fine Dining’ area offers tableware that ranges from the classiest of crockery to the most basic yet elegant of serviettes and placement mats. The word AICON is a combination of icon and Arpico where the letter ‘A’ is added to the word ‘icon,’ indicating the distinction between what AICON presents in comparison to the typical Arpico product range. “Arpico is all about range, choice, space and convenience,” said Richard Pieris Distributors Ltd. Marketing Manager Surangi Fernando, expressing her views about the new lifestyle store. “However, after the renovation of Arpico Hyde Park, we wanted to differentiate. AICON is a result of this need for a difference. When a customer walks into AICON, they walk into a space filled with charm. And the main reason for a luxury store is that we get around 5,000 customers daily who are always looking for something unique.” Items in the store will be replaced according to the seasons and the focal point of AICON will be on supplying items that are unparalleled to what is abundantly available in other places. “In Sri Lanka lifestyles of shoppers are changing continuously,” said Richard Pieris Distributors Ltd. CEO Michael Andree. “They are always looking for something unique. Therefore, we identified the need for a store that can present something unique to shoppers and developed the first floor at Hyde Park Corner into a store with a difference.
