Let’s face it, we all love Chinese food to the point where one could argue if there is more demand for fried rice in Sri Lanka than in China! However, what most of us Sri Lankans see as Chinese food and the authentic Chinese food in China are quite different. It is a very diverse cuisine that has eight regional variations namely Anhui, Guangdong, Fujian, Hunan, Jiangsu, Shandong, Sichuan, and Zhejiang. Two of the more internationally popular of the eight are Sichuan(Szechuan) and Guangdong (Cantonese).
Yue Chuan Chinese Restaurant at The Kingsbury is the only Chinese restaurant in the city offering two delectable menus; Szechuan & Cantonese and Chinese/Sri Lankan fusion. Combining the intensely fragrant yet fiery Sichuan pepper with authentic ingredients from the region, Szechuan cuisine delights anyone who loves a bit of spice and particularly guilty are us Sri Lankans. In contrast Cantonese cooking is about preserving the natural flavours of fresh ingredients with gentler preparation techniques such as steaming, braising and saute. The two amazing cuisines contrast each other in a culinary version of Yin and Yang to take food lovers on a flavourful journey of culinary perfection. The Chinese/Sri Lankan Fusion menu on the other hand is prepared for the Sri Lankan palate, making it spicy and close to home.
