Join Mahadanamuththa and modern Golayas for an Avurudu Ulella that brings back all your favourite traditional games! Expographic bookstore, Pelawatte in collaboration with Power of Play Ltd will host ‘Mahadanamuththa and modern Golayas’ Avurudu Ulella’ Saturday, 26 April 2014 from 10:30 a.m. onwards at Expographic Bookstore, Pelawatte (455, Pannipitiya Road, Pelawatta). ‘Mahadanamuththa and modern Golayas’ Avurudu Ulella’ is an ideal opportunity for families to get actively involved in playing the traditional games of the Sinhalese and Tamil New Year in a non-competitive celebration of culture, friendship and team work. Everyone young and young at heart is invited to play with them dressed in your favourite traditional dress and enjoy a morning of laughter and good will. Puppet performance will be in Sinhala and interactive games will be conducted primarily in Sinhalese with English translations available upon request. Established in November 2011, Power of Play Ltd (PoP) utilises performing arts for communication with a special focus on puppetry. ‘Mahadanamuththa and modern Golayas’ is conceptualised by PoP in collaboration with Giri Harja III – the puppet troupe of the late maestro puppeteer Dalang Asep Sunandar Sunarya of Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Premiered in 2010 at the Indonesian Embassy of Colombo, the modern Golayas of Mahadanamuththa has delighted diverse Sri Lankan audiences while discussing issues of social, economic and cultural importance.
