Current lifestyle trends have seen that people, amidst their hectic schedules, are now very health-conscious, aiming to be more physically fit, eating healthier, and are veering sharply away from carbonated and artificial drinks to more natural, hydrating beverages. Of course, it does not get any more natural than water, which is at the core of nutrition that leads to good health.

However, finding sources of fresh, untainted water is sometimes not easy, and this is where Access Natural Water (Pvt.) Ltd., under the brand name ‘Aquafresh’, decided to make its mark over a decade ago in 2001.

Since its establishment, Aquafresh has differentiated itself from its competitors and has emerged as the best quality mineral water in the country, keeping in line with many local and international standards which have instilled confidence in its consumers regarding the quality of the product.

This includes the Dutch HACCP Food Safety Certificate which has made Aquafresh the only Sri Lankan table water that qualifies to be served in any country in the European Union and is also the proud holder of the United Nations ‘Water for Life’ awards for quality and excellence.

Established as a subsidiary of the Access Group of Companies, Aquafresh has over the years developed an outstanding expertise in bottled water. This stems from the company’s understanding of its consumers’ different hydration needs which it aims to meet by making available a 100 per cent natural product.

This is seen in the company’s tagline alone: ‘Bringing Nature to Life!’ The water is sourced from the fine springs that sprout from the mountains of Labugamkanda, located in a geologically unique rainforest in Sri Lanka. It is extracted from aquifers that reach 200 feet beneath the bedrock, eliminating any contamination through surface contact, thereby preserving the natural goodness and quality of pure fresh water, which is not changed at any stage of the bottling process.

Ensuring that the water remains chemical free, it is then cleansed through a natural biological purification system, without the addition of chlorine or any other chemicals in a purpose-built modern factory designed by the Lecturer at University of Peradeniya, Faculty of Engineering Dr. Harin Corea.

This process in fact mimics the biopurification process that water is put through in nature, which has been replicated in Aquafresh’s state-of-the-art factory – leaving the end product pure, fresh and chemical free.

The fully automated process with no human interference sees the purification, bottling and sealing of the water done at the factory located at the source itself, ensuring that fresh, chemical free water is delivered to consumers. This also gives the water a live refreshing taste which mildly tingle your taste buds.

The company also stresses on the fact that water is not transported in tank trucks from unknown wells. It is also the best quality water for consumption, whether in a corporate environment or a household as it’s healthy, chemical free and requires no boiling for purification which saves on electricity and gas.

In addition, unlike some of the water filters in the market which add chemicals such as chlorine – which research has shown is a cancer causing agent – Aquafresh purifies water without any addition of chemicals, instead using a non-chemical purification process.

Furthermore, as the water is acquired from uncontaminated aquifers, it does not require harsh purification due to the purity of the source from which the water is extracted, hence eliminating the use of disinfectant chemicals hazardous to health.

Aquafresh goes to the extent of obtaining the water from this source in order to ensure a completely natural product in order to meet its consumers’ requirements. The location of the spring for instance, is such that it preserves the natural balance of vital minerals and freshness in the water, making Aquafresh a healthier thirst quencher.

To maintain good health and proper body functions, the amount of water in the body should remain relatively constant. Therefore, the amount of water lost daily must be replaced by an equivalent amount of water intake in order to maintain a proper balance. Spring water also contains properties that are beneficial to the health and well being of a person. The water extracted from Aquafresh’s unique source is naturally well balanced in mineral properties which helps maintain the required balance.

Since its inception, Aquafresh has received numerous certifications and accolades which are a testament to the quality of the water. This was clearly seen when the strong brand loyalty gained within the industry for Aquafresh within a short period of time saw it being chosen as the first locally bottled water to be served on board the national carrier, SriLankan Airlines.
