The creativity and design proficiency of Brandix will once again be displayed on a fashion catwalk in Colombo, through the Group’s designer Radhika Mendis, who will unveil a new collection created exclusively for the 2014 HSBC Colombo Fashion Week (CFW) in February. A key partner of the event, Brandix will support the CFW’s principal objective of developing young designers by bringing in innovative techniques in fabric development, an effort which the Group says will create amazing collaboration between Brandix design development and Sri Lankan designers showcasing at CFW. CFW President Ajai Vir Singh said: “We are delighted to have Brandix as a corporate partner of the HSBC Colombo Fashion Week. We are working at interesting synergies where it comes to developing fashion in an innovative manner. After the partnership at the Resort Show in Galle, this year is a step up with an interesting collection by Radhika and the Brandix design team. We look forward to developing the partnership further.” Radhika, who has played a key role in partnering leading US retail brands with a focus on lounge and resort wear, has drawn her inspiration for this latest collection from Flamingos. The women’s smart casual assortment she will present uses faux leather coatings on relaxed fabrications with splashes of pink demanding attention. The highly structured product line ranging from tops, bottoms and dresses uses fabrics and raw materials provided by Brandix Casual wear. Elaborating on the Group’s rationale for supporting the HSBC Colombo Fashion Week, Brandix Director AJ Johnpillai said: “From its inception, the Brandix Group’s purpose has been to provide inspired solutions for branded clothing. An important element of being a provider of inspired solutions to the global apparel industry is a well evolved in-house design capability.” “It is this design capability that separates a simple manufacturer of apparel from a solutions provider, one that understands the fashion business, anticipates trends, and can, in fact, inspire and influence trends. Brandix has already acquired and deployed such design capabilities for many of its key customers, and initiatives like the HSBC Colombo Fashion Week provide a platform to develop and test these capabilities further.” He added that Brandix’s association with an internationally acclaimed fashion show such as the CFW would provide a perfect training base for the in-house design talent of Brandix to gain much needed exposure to the ramp experience. Radhika Mendis studied at Monash University – Melbourne from which she received a degree in Business Information Systems. On her return to Sri Lanka she joined Brandix purely because of her passion to sketch and design. Radhika has been with Brandix for the last three years, focusing on product design, development and product creation for various international brands. The pioneer of the concept of ‘total solutions’ in Sri Lanka’s apparel sector and a preferred supplier to some of the world’s top apparel labels, Brandix is also a benchmark and international award winner for eco-friendly manufacture and commitment to environmental best practice.
