The Taj Samudra Colombo invites all to come and experience a memorable Christmas as it heralds the Christmas Season with bountiful events to get everyone in the festive spirit and mood this Season.
The spirit of good cheer is further enhanced by the melodious sounds of Christmas Carols by Metho Cantanti the past pupils choir of Methodist College comprising of approximately 15-20 talended young singers with a passion for singing. Metho Cantanti which means ‘Metho Singers’ in Italian, was formed in 2012 under the direction of Anagi Perera. Currently it is jointly directed by Manique Abeyratne and Anagi Perera. Several of their choristers have gained international exposure by participating in competitions such as the World Choir Games.
The choir has a broad repertoire which includes Classical, Broadway, Gospel and Pop music. They have performed previously at several venues in Colombo including the Lionel Wendt Theatre, The Cathedral of Christ our Living Savior and many more.
The Taj Samudra will present its Christmas Carols on 22 December at the Lattice from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

A Licentiate of the Trinity College, London, Anagi has performed in numerous concerts as a soloist and has won many prizes for singing since the age of 8. Her repertoire includes operatic arias, art songs and Broadway. Anagi has appeared as the Soprano soloist in the Camerata Musica chamber choir’s performances of Haydn’s Little Organ Mass, Mozart’s Requiem, Purcell’s Funeral Music for Queen Mary, Vivaldi’s Gloria, J S Bach’s Jesu, Meine Freude and Mozart’s Coronation Mass in C major. She has also sung as a soloist with the Colombo Philharmonic Choir. She had her debut solo recital at the Russian Cultural Centre in 2010 and was titled ‘Amigos Para Siempre’.
Anagi has also performed the role of Michaela in excerpts from Bizet’s Carmen with the Menaka Singers Opera Ensemble. In 2012 and 2013 she was the soprano soloist of Giovanni Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, which was held at Saint Andrew’s Scots Kirk.
Anagi started her voice training under the late Kalasuri Lylie Godridge at a very young age and then continued with the late Ms Ruwani Sieman and Ms Menaka de Fonseka Sahabandu.
Her deep desire to form an established past pupils’ choir of her Alma Mater came to light when “Metho Cantanti” was formed in 2012 under her direction. She is currently a joint choir director of this choral outfit.
Anagi is a qualified marketer by profession and a former Brand Manager at Glaxo SmithKline consumer.Manique Abeyratne Manique has been performing since childhood, giving her first solo performance at the age of 5 in the UK where she was living with her family at the time. During her stay in England she learned to play the cello and was a member of the St. George’s Junior Orchestra in Kent. After moving back to Sri Lanka she commenced voice training under the late Kalasuri Lylie Godridge which she followed for 12 years. She was a member of the Moratuwa Choral Society and has taken part in many sacred and secular performances at venues across the island. She has also completed classical piano examinations up to diploma level and is an accomplished guitarist.
During her undergraduate studies she trained the university choir and was also a member of the university band where she played the keyboards and the drums, and was the lead female vocalist.
Manique joined Metho Cantanti in March 2012 and became co-director of the choir from September 2012. She was also the director of the Mount Lavinia Methodist Church Choir from 2012-2013.
Arranging and composing music in the classical, semi-classical, gospel and pop genre’s is another of Manique’s achievements. Several of these arrangements have been performed by her university choir and her church choir as well as Metho Cantanti. Manique has a B.Sc(Hons) degree in Information Systems from the Manchester Metropolitan University and a MBA from PIM. She is currently R&D Support Manager for Financials at IFS World Operations.
